Betty Kabara Makes Donation to Cancer Research
In 2008, Jon and Betty Kabara made a transformational donation to Gundersen Medical Foundation to aid Cancer Research. In 2016, a 2nd gift was announced.
The woman behind the Pink Pack
Five-time survivor. Co-founder. An extraordinary woman with a heart for others.
Some people leave behind more than a legacy. They leave an example of how to live. Betty Kabara is one of those people.
Alongside her husband, Dr. Jon J. Kabara, Betty helped build the foundation of Med-Chem Labs, the family company behind Lauricidin. While Dr. Kabara's groundbreaking research helped introduce monolaurin to the world, Betty brought something equally important to the family's story: compassion, determination, and a commitment to helping others.
As a five-time cancer survivor, Betty knew firsthand that a cancer journey is about so much more than a diagnosis. It is about courage. Family. Community. Finding strength on the difficult days. And having people beside you who care.
Throughout her life, Betty dedicated herself to charitable efforts and supporting others. Her story reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness can mean something extraordinary to someone else.
Today, we're proud to share a little piece of that spirit with you.
Five times a survivor
Five times, Betty faced cancer. And throughout those experiences, she continued to give, support, and encourage the people around her.
Her journey led to recognition through the Steppin' Out in Pink program, where she was honored for her survivorship. One particularly meaningful part of that recognition was a pair of pink boxing gloves — a symbol of courage shared among survivors and passed from one honoree to the next.
Those gloves represent far more than a fight. They represent the women who came before, the women still navigating their own journeys, and the strength that comes from standing together. It's a beautiful reminder of the spirit Betty carried throughout her life.
Her legacy isn't just about surviving five times. It's about how she chose to live, give, and inspire along the way.
Steppin' Out in Pink
A few announcements about charitable work Betty Kabara supported. These stories are separate from the Pink Pack, which is a free commemorative gift and not a donation.
In 2008, Jon and Betty Kabara made a transformational donation to Gundersen Medical Foundation to aid Cancer Research. In 2016, a 2nd gift was announced.
With a recent $1.5 million donation, Betty Kabara—current trustee and longtime supporter of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota—is enhancing and furthering the university’s science and business initiatives.
Through her generosity and partnership, Kabara, a resident of Galena, Ill., will help Saint Mary’s prepare tomorrow’s students to meet the challenges and demands of the future.
When a major change occurred to the Midwest District’s fundraising efforts, which resulted in losing $50,000 in funding, Betty saw an opportunity for more transformative philanthropy through a matching gift of $25,000. If a donor offered to match gifts directed to the Senior Brothers, could the $50,000 be raised in a new way? As a result, in 2015, the Kabara Challenge was born as a way to provide for Senior Brothers continued “Golden Year” needs.
The 2024 Kabara Challenge has a goal of raising $500,000 for the care of our senior Brothers. This includes a match of $250,000 on gifts up to $5,000.
A small pack with a big meaning
The Lauricidin Pink Pack was created to honor Betty's remarkable journey and the compassion she brought to our company. We wanted something simple. Something personal. Something our family could share with yours.
The result is a special edition of our original Lauricidin mini-pellets, wrapped in pink to symbolize awareness, strength, and hope. It's the same Lauricidin our customers know, presented in a commemorative package created with Betty in mind.
A small reminder of an extraordinary woman. And a tribute to every person and family whose life has been touched by cancer.
Because sometimes the smallest gestures carry the greatest meaning.

Our mini-pellet format lets you begin with a small amount and gradually work toward your preferred routine.
Getting started is simple. Start low. Go slow. Stay consistent.
Begin with a small serving, gradually increase according to the product guidance, and swallow the mini-pellets whole with food or a cool beverage. Do not chew them. We also provide a complimentary Dosing Companion to help new customers feel confident getting started.

A personal note from our family
My grandparents, Jon and Betty Kabara, built something that has become much more than a family business. They created a legacy centered on research, determination, and a genuine desire to help people.
My grandfather's discoveries laid the scientific foundation for Lauricidin. But my grandmother's compassion and generosity have always been just as important to our family's story. As a five-time cancer survivor, Betty understood the value of encouragement and the importance of showing up for others.
This Pink Pack is our way of honoring her, sharing her story, and celebrating the strength of everyone whose life has been touched by cancer. Whether you've supported our company for decades or are just discovering us today, thank you for being part of something that means so much to our family.
Here's to Betty. And to sharing a little more hope with the world.
With gratitude,
